Reading this map

This is a close-up of the national analysis: every English postcode was mapped to its neighbourhood on the English Indices of Deprivation 2025, flagged if the neighbourhood is in the country's most deprived 20%, and rolled up to the postal districts Google Ads can exclude (majority-deprived districts are recommended for exclusion). The full methodology, data sources and refinement options are in the accompanying document and national map.

London reads differently from the national picture. Deprivation concentrates in a north-east arc — Edmonton and Tottenham (N18, N9, N17, N15, EN3), the East End and Newham (E1, E5, E9, E12, E13, E6) — plus Harlesden (NW10), North Kensington (W10) and Heathrow (TW6, an airport district with a small resident population). Note that house prices stay high even in excluded districts (median £469k) — in London, deprivation and expensive housing coexist, which is why the exclusion rule rests on the deprivation index rather than prices.
